Barracks and Refuge

The two quest-locked maps that close out the classic Season 6 line, with the 1.5 million health Dark Elf at the end.

Updated on August 10, 2026

The Barracks of Balgass (map 41) and the Balgass Refuge (map 42) are not ordinary maps: they are the second and third steps of the quest chain that closes the classic Season 6 line. They have no ground portal, they are not in the Move window and they only open for whoever has the right quest accepted. Both are level 400 content.

The door to both is Priest Devin, in Crywolf (228,48). He is the one who gives out the two quests, and it is the accepted quest that authorizes the gatekeeper NPC to take you in.

  1. 1Priest Devin, in Crywolf (228,48)

Accept the quest "Infiltrate The Barracks of Balgass". Level 400 and 7,000,000 zen to start.

  2. 2Werewolf Quarrel, in Crywolf (62,239)

He takes you to the Barracks of Balgass for 3,000,000 zen.

  3. 3Kill 20 of each

Balram, Death Spirit and Soram, all three inside the Barracks. Go back to Devin and get 10 stat points.

  4. 4Second quest

"Into the 'Darkness' Zone", also with Devin, costs 10,000,000 zen to start.

  5. 5Gatekeeper, in the Barracks (119,168)

With the second quest active, he takes you to the Balgass Refuge for free.

  6. 6Dark Elf

Just one, in the Refuge. Killing him closes the quest: 30 stat points and the third class skills.

Barracks of Balgass

Map of the Barracks of Balgass
Barracks of Balgass. You arrive in the (29,79) area and the Gatekeeper stands at (119,168).

The Barracks is a small and packed map: 29 monsters of three species, all between level 117 and 119. It is the most straightforward map in the game, because the three monsters that spawn here are exactly the three the quest asks for.

MonsterLevelHealthDamageDefenseHow many
Balram (Trainee Soldier)11775,000550 to 65048010
Death Spirit (Trainee Soldier)11985,000580 to 68049010
Soram (Trainee Soldier)11990,000600 to 7005009
Server design values. During closed testing the monsters are temporarily weaker.

The Barracks is one of the five maps on the server with an exclusive drop. The Flame of Condor drops here, at 0.1% per kill, with no level range: any of the three monsters can leave it.

Beyond that, the global groups apply: jewel at 0.1%, excellent at 0.01%, zen on half the kills and a random item on 30%. No monster here is below level 110, so no medal drops. The only NPC on the map is the Gatekeeper, at (119,168).

Balgass Refuge

The Refuge is even smaller: nine monsters on the whole map. Eight are the escort and the ninth is the target. No NPC, no vault, nothing beyond what you came for. Whoever dies here respawns in Lorencia, not on the map.

MonsterLevelHealthDamageDefenseHow many
Death Spirit (Trainee Soldier)11985,000580 to 6804904
Soram (Trainee Soldier)11990,000600 to 7005004
Dark Elf (Trainee Soldier)1281,500,000800 to 9009001
The Dark Elf against his escort
  • Death Spirit85.000 health
  • Soram90.000 health
  • Dark Elf1.500.000 health

The Dark Elf has 1,500,000 health, sixteen times more than the runner-up on the map, and 900 defense. He is the target of the second quest and he is a normal spawn monster, not an event boss: no schedule, no summoning and no phases. If somebody just killed him, all you have to do is wait for the respawn.

Is it worth it?

The whole chain is worth it, and it is not optional for anyone who wants the complete third class package: the second quest hands over 30 stat points and the third class skills. After that, the two maps go separate ways.

Barracks of Balgass
  • Worth coming back to after the quest, for the Flame of Condor, which exists nowhere else.
  • 29 monsters on a small map: high density for the size.
  • It has the Gatekeeper, which is the door to the Refuge.
  • Every visit costs 3,000,000 zen to Werewolf Quarrel.
Balgass Refuge
  • Do the quest and do not come back: nine monsters do not sustain a farm.
  • No exclusive drop and no NPC at all.
  • Dying sends you back to Lorencia, on the other side of the world.
  • The Dark Elf respawns on his own, with no schedule and no event.
