PvP and PK
Where you can attack another player, what killing someone costs, how a duel works and what changes when you become a murderer.
Updated on August 10, 2026Outside a safe zone, any player can attack any player, on any map. There is no PvP switch, no map flagged as PvP and no protection for members of the same party or the same guild. The only thing that holds anyone back is the murderer penalty, and it is far less harsh than MU's reputation suggests.
- 3kills to the top PK stage
- 1 hadded to the counter per kill
- 30minimum level to duel
- 30,000zen to enter a duel, from each side
Where PvP happens
The rule belongs to the terrain, not to the map. Each tile on a map is flagged as safe zone or not, and the check is done on both sides of the hit.
- If you are in a safe zone, your attack on another player is refused.
- If the target is in a safe zone, the attack is refused.
- Outside of that, the hit goes through. This holds for normal attacks and for every skill.
That means Lorencia's square is safe, but the field right next to it is not. And it means that on maps without a single safe zone tile, like the Duel Arena, there is no safe corner.
Damage in PvP is different
Against a player the server swaps several stats: it uses `Attack Rate (PvP)` and `Defense Rate (PvP)` in the hit test, and `Defense (PvP)` in the defense subtraction. A character who is sharp against monsters can be mediocre against people, because those are separate stats.
| Rule | In PvM | In PvP |
|---|---|---|
| Rates used | the PvM versions | the PvP versions |
| Overrate (damage drops to 30%) | applies | does not apply |
| Final PvP damage bonus | does not exist | adds up, including the weapon mastery nodes |
| Skill effect chance and duration | PvM values | PvP values, usually lower |
| Duel with a target that has no SD | does not apply | damage multiplied by 0.6 |
Self defense
When someone hits you and deals damage, self defense kicks in, and it lasts 1 minute. While it is active, you can kill the aggressor without becoming a PK. It is the protection for whoever was attacked first.
- Self defense does not start if you are already a PK: a murderer has no right to it.
- It also does not apply inside a duel, or in an event with PvP allowed, or between guilds in a hostility.
- Having self defense active blocks starting a duel.
Becoming a PK
Killing a player does not always count. The server has a list of exempt situations, and it covers most consensual PvP.
- You are in a duel.
- The victim was already a PK.
- You were in self defense against them.
- Both guilds are in a declared hostility.
- You are in a guild war.
- An event with PvP allowed, such as Chaos Castle.
- Killing someone who did not attack you.
- Killing on any regular map, outside the exemptions on the left.
- Killing a member of your own party or guild (there is no protection).
- Each kill adds one hour to the counter and moves you up one step of state.
| Kills | State | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Murderer warning | just the label; no restriction yet |
| 2 | Murderer, first stage | guards attack, cannot enter events, loses the right to self defense |
| 3 or more | Murderer, second stage | all of the above, and cannot duel |
What being a PK really costs
| Penalty | Detail |
|---|---|
| Guards attack | from the second step on, outside a safe zone. There are guards in Lorencia, Devias and Valley of Loren |
| Events closed off | Devil Square, Blood Castle and Chaos Castle refuse PKs. The fourth class trial accepts them |
| No self defense | you do not get the free pass to kill whoever hit you first |
| No duels | at the second stage, you cannot challenge or be challenged |
| More experience lost on death | 2% to 7% of the bar, against 0.7% to 1% for a clean player, and only when the killer is a monster |
How to clear the status
The way out is killing monsters. Each creature you kill takes its level in seconds off the counter. A level 100 monster removes 100 seconds. That is why someone who became a PK by accident goes back to farming instead of standing around waiting.
When the counter hits zero, the state steps back toward normal. A second stage murderer needs to come down two steps to be a regular player again.
Duel
A duel is consensual PvP, on its own map, with no penalty at all. You get in through the Gatekeeper Titus, in Vulcanus, and the fight map is the Duel Arena.
| Duel rule | Value |
|---|---|
| Minimum level | 30 |
| Entry cost | 30,000 zen from each of the two |
| Simultaneous rooms | 4 |
| Score to win | 10 kills |
| Countdown before the start | 5 seconds |
| Damage between duelists (target with no SD) | 60% of normal |
- Both need to be on the same map for the challenge to be sent.
- Once the challenge is accepted, each one pays 30,000 zen and is teleported to their corner of the room.
- A 5 second countdown and the fight begins. Each kill is worth one point.
- Dying inside the duel respawns you in the arena itself, with full bars, and repositions your opponent for the next round.
- At 10 points the duel ends, the result is announced and, after 10 seconds, both go back to the city.
Arena and Duel Arena
- The warp costs 2,000 zen and requires level 50.
- No monsters, three NPCs.
- The field is not a safe zone: PvP is free on almost the whole map, including the arrival point.
- It is the guild football map, with two goals and a marked out field area.
- Dying there respawns you in the Arena itself.
- It has no direct warp: you get in through the Gatekeeper Titus, in Vulcanus.
- No monsters and no NPCs.
- Zero safe zone tiles on the whole map.
- Four independent rooms, one per duel.
- Dying outside a duel sends you to Lorencia.
